It surprises me how hard I can work at times. Well, maybe I wasn’t working hard, but not working smart either.

Definition: Sneaker Net
The transporting of files via a flash drive, walking them from one machine to another on foot.

I’ve got two machines sitting right next to each other, on the same network and yet for a long time, I found myself transferring files from one to the other via a flash drive. Why? I have no idea. I guess I just didn’t give it much thought so “sneaker net” had life. No more!

CONFIGURING REMOTE ACCESS

I decided it was time to stop using a flash drive. It took me all of about 2 minutes to configure access to the two machines and was extremely easy. I just opened the “Sharing” control panel and checked the “File Sharing” click box. You know it’s simple when you don’t even have to Google it for some help.

SUCCESS!

A couple of minutes later I was transferring files from my main machine to the Media Server and life was good! Still shaking my head at myself for not configuring this sooner. Just didn’t think about it, but now that file sharing has been configured… “sneaker net” is dead.
